Description Oliver Ilian 2015-11-30 12:00:50 UTC
Description of problem:
MimeType missing in desktop file of gnome-packagekit-installer (/usr/share/applications/gpk-application.desktop) which prevents the install of rpms through firefox. This was working in RHEL 7.1 and before.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-packagekit-installer-3.14.3-5.el7.x86_64.rpm

How reproducible:
Every time you try to install a rpm

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on a link to an rpm file in your favourite browser (Firefox)

Actual results:
Offered to open rpm in file-roller

Expected results:
open the rpm by default with the software installer

Additional info:
We do not use the gnome-software store at the moment.

The line missing in /usr/share/applications/gpk-application.desktop is: MimeType=application/x-rpm;application/x-redhat-package-manager;application/x-deb;application/x-app-package;

Comment 1 Oliver Ilian 2015-11-30 12:29:21 UTC
actually i checked and the issue is that

/usr/share/applications/gpk-install-local-file.desktop

is missing completely. Please add it back so that rpm's can be installed by a double click or directly inside the browser.

Comment 2 Matthias Clasen 2016-04-15 17:37:46 UTC
sounds like an easy fix

Comment 3 Richard Hughes 2016-04-26 12:55:39 UTC
So, this was removed so that gnome-software can handle the open action. I guess installing gnome-software would fix this, but we probably need a smarter fix for upgrades.

Comment 4 Richard Hughes 2016-05-18 14:27:51 UTC
I think I fixed this with #1290868, right?

Comment 5 Matthias Clasen 2016-06-02 14:12:52 UTC
Oliver, is this sufficiently fixed for your needs ?

Comment 6 Oliver Ilian 2016-06-29 13:05:54 UTC
yes, it is fixed for me. Thanks.

Comment 7 Matthias Clasen 2016-06-29 13:07:22 UTC

Yes, when clicking on http://download-ipv4.eng.brq.redhat.com/nightly/latest-RHEL-7/compose/Workstation/x86_64/os/Packages/GeoIP-1.5.0-11.el7.x86_64.rpm Firefox offers Software Install.
