/var/log/messages file showing issue which seems to hang kudzu during boot
Does kudzu run once booted? I have boot to single-user and run kudzu in which the system would seem to slow quite a bit. I would type and many seconds later the characters would come up but kudzu seems to have run as I did get the prompt back. If booted to run-level 5 and run kudzu it screws up mouse, etc. It's all I can do to reboot. I have not tried manually running kudzu in run-level 3. Can you post the full dmesg after running it in single-user mode? Created attachment 102310 [details]
dmesg after booting single-user and running kudzu
Assigning to kernel, looks like a USB issue. I can go along with that but why would the problem no longer exist when I back down to the previous version of kudzu (at the same time leaving the kernel unchanged)? I have the same problem running Fedora Core 2, but it's with a firewire device (ipod). kudzu crshes during boot. It worked at first but then I rebooted and kudzu asked if I wanted to remove etc. and I removed the config. hasn't booted since, with or without ipod attached. is I boot as single user kudzu just hangs. here's my dmesg, looks a little grimmer than the other!: alpages: 261936 DMA zone: 4096 pages, LIFO batch:1 Normal zone: 225280 pages, LIFO batch:16 HighMem zone: 32560 pages, LIFO batch:7 DMI 2.3 present. You mentioned that Kudzu wanted to remove etc!! Did you/kudzu actually remove /etc? If so I can understand why it won't boot. If I misunderstood you and you did not remove /etc you might want to reboot in recovery mode, manually mount your file system and tell kudzu not to run. This should at least get you to booting again. So far I have not had any luck in getting this bug resolved so I simply have kudzu disabled. Try the recovery boot and disable kudzu and see what happens. If /etc is gone then you're out luck and re-install will probably be necessary. Nah, it didn't remove /etc, sorry, bad choice of words. Just wanted to remove the configuration for the "iPo" device. Gonna have to disable kudzu at boot but not sure how. relative newbie ya see, teaching myself as I go along. Cheers for your help though, Kev Kevin, please stay away from this bug. Open a new one if you want. This bug is filed against RHEL 3, which is in maintenance phase. During the maintenance phase, only security errata and select mission critical bug fixes will be released for enterprise products. Since this bug does not meet that criteria, it is now being closed. For more information of the RHEL errata support policy, please visit: http://www.redhat.com/security/updates/errata/ If you feel this bug is indeed mission critical, please contact your support representative. You may be asked to provide detailed information on how this bug is affecting you. |
