My HW: Lenovo T61 # uname -a kernel 4.3.0-0.rc7.git2.2.fc24.x86_64 # uptime 11:48:42 up 10 days, 19:08, 11 users, load average: 0,43, 0,29, 0,34 This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 24 development cycle. Changing version to '24'. More information and reason for this action is here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Program_Management/HouseKeeping/Fedora24#Rawhide_Rebase Still applies on my Rawhide: When this happens - I observe this 'strace' of pulseaudio: Nothing suspicious from kernel after resume. Any more info I can provide to get this fixed ? read(3, "W", 10) = 1 read(3, 0x7ffe048b4970, 10) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) ppoll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=74, events=POLLIN}, [eventfd] This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 25 development cycle. Changing version to '25'. I think I have this bug too, or at least a very similar bug. I am running F24 KDE Spin with all the latest updates as per 3. Oct. 2016 After resume there is no sound when using certain programs, at least for a while, while other programs have sound immediately. There seems to be a relation between how long the sound is gone and the clients as shown by a "pacmd list-clients". 1. If the first program I run after suspend is "VLC" then there isn't any sound. A "killall pulseaudio" re-enables sound when restarting "VLC". 2. If I start the "Amarok" music player as the first thing after resume, there is sound immediately no matter what, and a later start of "VLC" also immediately produces sound. 3. If I start "VLC" after resume and let it keep running, then a later start of "Amarok" doesn't enable sound, at least not immediately. 4. If I remove as many PA clients as I can (using the output of "pacmd list-clients") then "VLC" may start to produce sound after a second start. The two removed clients are "Amarok" and "kmail" that has the "application.name = "Chrome input"" Below are the output of "pacmd list-sinks" after a resume. *** No audio after resume with VLC running*** "pacmd list-sinks": 1 sink(s) available. * index: 0 name: <alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo> driver: <module-alsa-card.c> flags: HARDWARE HW_MUTE_CTRL HW_VOLUME_CTRL DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY FLAT_VOLUME DYNAMIC_LATENCY state: SUSPENDED suspend cause: IDLE priority: 9959 volume: front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB, front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB balance 0,00 base volume: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB volume steps: 65537 muted: no current latency: 0,00 ms max request: 0 KiB max rewind: 0 KiB monitor source: 0 sample spec: s16le 2ch 48000Hz channel map: front-left,front-right Stereo used by: 0 linked by: 0 configured latency: 0,00 ms; range is 0,50 .. 1837,50 ms card: 1 <alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1b.0> module: 7 properties: alsa.resolution_bits = "16" device.api = "alsa" device.class = "sound" alsa.class = "generic" alsa.subclass = "generic-mix" alsa.name = "AD1989B Analog" alsa.id = "AD1989B Analog" alsa.subdevice = "0" alsa.subdevice_name = "subdevice #0" alsa.device = "0" alsa.card = "0" alsa.card_name = "HDA Intel" alsa.long_card_name = "HDA Intel at 0xfe5f8000 irq 39" alsa.driver_name = "snd_hda_intel" device.bus_path = "pci-0000:00:1b.0" sysfs.path = "/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0" device.bus = "pci" device.vendor.id = "8086" device.vendor.name = "Intel Corporation" device.product.id = "3a3e" device.product.name = "82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller (P5Q Deluxe Motherboard)" device.form_factor = "internal" device.string = "front:0" device.buffering.buffer_size = "352800" device.buffering.fragment_size = "176400" device.access_mode = "mmap+timer" device.profile.name = "analog-stereo" device.profile.description = "Analog Stereo" device.description = "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" alsa.mixer_name = "Analog Devices AD1989B" alsa.components = "HDA:11d4989b,10438311,00100300" module-udev-detect.discovered = "1" device.icon_name = "audio-card-pci" ports: analog-output-lineout: Line Out (priority 9900, latency offset 0 usec, available: yes) properties: analog-output-headphones: Headphones (priority 9000, latency offset 0 usec, available: no) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-headphones" active port: <analog-output-lineout> ***end*** *** With audio after resume with Amarok running*** "pacmd list-sinks": 1 sink(s) available. * index: 0 name: <alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo> driver: <module-alsa-card.c> flags: HARDWARE HW_MUTE_CTRL HW_VOLUME_CTRL DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY FLAT_VOLUME DYNAMIC_LATENCY state: RUNNING suspend cause: priority: 9959 volume: front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB, front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB balance 0,00 base volume: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB volume steps: 65537 muted: no current latency: 61,63 ms max request: 15 KiB max rewind: 344 KiB monitor source: 0 sample spec: s16le 2ch 44100Hz channel map: front-left,front-right Stereo used by: 1 linked by: 1 configured latency: 90,00 ms; range is 0,50 .. 2000,00 ms card: 1 <alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1b.0> module: 7 properties: alsa.resolution_bits = "16" device.api = "alsa" device.class = "sound" alsa.class = "generic" alsa.subclass = "generic-mix" alsa.name = "AD1989B Analog" alsa.id = "AD1989B Analog" alsa.subdevice = "0" alsa.subdevice_name = "subdevice #0" alsa.device = "0" alsa.card = "0" alsa.card_name = "HDA Intel" alsa.long_card_name = "HDA Intel at 0xfe5f8000 irq 39" alsa.driver_name = "snd_hda_intel" device.bus_path = "pci-0000:00:1b.0" sysfs.path = "/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1b.0/sound/card0" device.bus = "pci" device.vendor.id = "8086" device.vendor.name = "Intel Corporation" device.product.id = "3a3e" device.product.name = "82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller (P5Q Deluxe Motherboard)" device.form_factor = "internal" device.string = "front:0" device.buffering.buffer_size = "352800" device.buffering.fragment_size = "176400" device.access_mode = "mmap+timer" device.profile.name = "analog-stereo" device.profile.description = "Analog Stereo" device.description = "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" alsa.mixer_name = "Analog Devices AD1989B" alsa.components = "HDA:11d4989b,10438311,00100300" module-udev-detect.discovered = "1" device.icon_name = "audio-card-pci" ports: analog-output-lineout: Line Out (priority 9900, latency offset 0 usec, available: yes) properties: analog-output-headphones: Headphones (priority 9000, latency offset 0 usec, available: no) properties: device.icon_name = "audio-headphones" active port: <analog-output-lineout> ***end*** I'm having a very similar problem. When I suspend the machine and then resume, the audio is always off. Looking into the audio settings, my device doesn't appear, I have to disconnect and connect it again. Yep - still observable on my rawhide (fc26) as well. pulseaudio-9.0-1.fc25.x86_64 It just looks there is no interest to solve it.... Same here, pulseaudio stops working after logout and login back again. More details here https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/6995 tl;dr Comment out load-module module-esound-protocol-unix in /etc/pulse/default.pa and restart. From what i read has to do with the esd socket in /tmp not being removed and pulseaudio can not start again, maybe. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77895 This bug is specifically about suspend/resume (not logout) This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. Still valid with Rawhide..... This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 28 development cycle. Changing version to '28'. This message is a reminder that Fedora 28 is nearing its end of life. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. Still happens with rawhide 5.1 kernel and pulseaudio-12.2-4.fc31.x86_64. And the workaround still works as well - killall pulseaudio makes sound appear again. I'd probably say the mandatory piece is to switch between docking station with attached headphones and resume without dock and expecting sound from built-in speaker... This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 31 development cycle. Changing version to 31. There was a problem with suspend/resume (poll events not cleared) that was fixed in in fedora 30. But it seems there is another suspend/resume problem then. Although over the time I've figured simpler solution instead of killing PA daemon with the necesity to restart playing processes (i.e. reloading ff playing window) It's just enough to open audio control panel (pavucontrol) and in 'Configuration' tab I'll just do a simple flip Analog duplex stereo to i.e. input digital (IEC958).... then I flip back to 'analog duplex stereo' and sound is back. Applies still with: pavucontrol-4.0-5.fc33.x86_64 kernel-5.10.0-0.rc1.56.fc34.x86_64 pulseaudio-13.99.2-1.fc34.x86_64 This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 34 development cycle.
