Description of problem:

there are three main issues, one is that the sound auto mutes on start up so every time i restart the os, i have to open alsamixer, switch to my hda intel pch sound and unmute s/pdif to get sound.  

the second issue is that no device can control the sound.  the devices controls the "master" sound under alsamixer however to get the sound volume to change under alsamixer i have to change the volume of pcm to control sound.  

lastly, usually what i will do when i have sound issues is reattribute options under kmix however the driver for my sound keeps crashing if i select any options.  

none of this happened prior to and update within the last month or two and it does it in both fc 22 and fc 23.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.  do a fresh install of fc 22 or 23
2.  dnf -y update
3.  reboot

Actual results:

after doing those steps the sound will mute every time on restart and the sound will be completely messed up.

Sorry but this doesn't sound like a problem with alsa-firmware. alsa-firmware contains firmware drivers for a very small number of specialist 
sound cards only.

Please be aware that problems with sound can be caused by many different software components within a Fedora system (including ALSA kernel modules, PulseAudio, desktop volume controls, individual applications and more) and you may find it easier to get some informal help to track down the problem before filing bugs (if necessary), so that you can file them against the right component and the appropriate person can help.

If you still believe that your problem is with alsa-firmware, please re-open this bug with further details. Alternatively, if you identify the software causing the problem, you could change the Component accordingly and re-open it.
