Description Tim Wegener 2016-01-18 00:05:29 UTC
Description of problem:

When booting the system, the screen goes blank and waits there. Pressing escape shows the text mode prompt for the encrypted drive passphrase.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

plymouth-0.8.9-10.2013.08.14.fc22.x86_64
kernel-4.2.8-200.fc22.x86_64

How reproducible:

Happens every time.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Reboot or power on the system.
2. Wait.
3. On blank screen, press escape to reveal the encrypted disk passphrase prompt.

Actual results:

The system shows a blank screen during early boot up.
The user must press escape in order to reveal the prompt for the encrypted disk passphrase (i.e. switch to text mode).

Expected results:

A graphical prompt should be shown for the encrypted drive passphrase.

Additional info:

This is on a Dell Latitude E6520 laptop.

The problem does not occur on a similarly configured Dell Latitude E5420 laptop (i.e. it shows the graphical prompt for the encrypted drive passphrase).

This has been happening for a long time.

We get here a black screen with a cursor only in the left upper corner *after* entered the right password into graphical password prompt, for some time till cinnamon shows up. No idea if that's the same bug.
