Section Number and Name: Moving Gears Between Nodes

Describe the issue:

Moving gear's between profiles are not supported, and like the limitations of UID's between nodes in a district, this limitation should also be highlighted.

Suggestions for improvement:

1: Update the debug example output to show the current output, generated by the command. Mainly this should show or highlight the following error message generated by [0]:

Cannot change node_profile for a gear - this operation is not supported. The destination container's node profile is small, while the gear's node_profile is medium

2: Highlight that the move of profiles is not supported, and that changing profiles should follow https://access.redhat.com/solutions/640893 or use the `--from-app` option on `rhc create`.

Additional information:

Is should be noted (but possibly not documented) that RFE's to enable this have been requested, however it has been explicitly rejected based on the current lifecycle of OpenShift and the complexity of enabling this feature.

Comment 1 Timothy Williams 2016-09-08 17:52:20 UTC
Gears can actually be moved between gear profiles, as long as the application is not scalable.

At this point in the product's lifecycle, this is not an important enough change to be worked on. Closing for now. Please feel free to re-open if you disagree.
