Comment 2 Mikko Tiihonen 2016-04-02 16:19:22 UTC
This bug has happened with about 90% probability when plugging in HDMI or DP display to my laptop since middle of January with kernel 4.5.0-0.rc0.git1.1.fc24. But the 4.5.0-302.fc24 is the first kernel where abrt allows me to report it.

Comment 3 Mikko Tiihonen 2016-04-02 16:44:08 UTC
Alternative stack trace that occurs (and has occurred since 4.5.0-rc0 through to the latest 4.6.0-rc1) when plugging in external display:

Comment 4 Robert de Rooy 2016-05-09 08:37:21 UTC
Seeing the same error on a Lenovo X1 Yoga when plugging in an external display (HDMI or DP), and modifying any display settings (like Mirror mode). The system then freezes and I can no longer even switch to a VT.

Comment 5 Noam Cohen 2016-06-01 07:40:50 UTC
Same thing happens on Lenovo Thinkpad 13 - plugging in an external display and modifying display settings will result in a freeze. Even if display settings are not modified - after a few minutes with both external and built-in displays active will result with the same freeze. I've opened up a new bug #1339885 for that case, but now it seems like a duplicate of this bug.

Comment 10 astavinu 2016-06-22 15:11:21 UTC
Description of problem:
Just plugin a monitor via VGA cable while the system is up and running.
If the system is booted with the monitor already plugged in, the problem won't appear.

The problem could be reproduced on an Intel i7 6500u (HD Graphics 520) and an Intel i5 6200u (HD Graphics 520) - no other systems tried.

Version-Release number of selected component:
kernel-core-4.5.7-300.fc24

Output from "lshw" and "dnf list installed" commands

Comment 12 Noam Cohen 2016-06-22 17:33:30 UTC
Unlike the scenario astavinu is describing - for me the problem appears both if the computer is powered on while the external monitor is already connected or if the monitor is plugged in while the system is running. In both cases the system will freeze after a few minutes of work or immediately if I try to change the Display settings (for example - change the Primary display).

My notebook is a new Thinkpad 13 machine. I'm attaching the output for the "lshw" and "dnf list installed" commands.

For me this bug is quite critical, as I cannot work with dual monitors which used to be my main working configuration.

Comment 13 Babak Rezai 2016-06-22 23:08:25 UTC
I should add mine is through a dock where I have 2 display-port connected monitors and the third connected by the vga through the dock. When docking/undocking it locks up and I am forced to reboot. Noam is correct its very disruptive.

Comment 15 Noam Cohen 2016-07-01 07:34:21 UTC
My fedora machine was automatically upgraded today to Linux Kernel version 4.6.3-300.fc24.x86_64. Since then - it looks like to problem was solved on my Lenovo Thinkpad 13.

Comment 16 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-25 20:28:08 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 17 Fedora End Of Life 2017-08-08 14:09:25 UTC
Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
