Description of problem: The PC boots very slowly and the GUI is very sluggish to respond

How reproducible: consistently


Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install kernel
2. Restart PC
3. Try to use as normal

Actual results: Very poor performance


Expected results: Normal operating speeds


Additional info: Bare metal install, system specs:
Gigabyte GA-AM1M-S2H rev 1.0
AMD Athlon 5350
1TB Seagate ST1000DM003 on SATA Port 0 hosting OS (EUFI, GPT, AHCI mode)
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSB0 on SATA Port 1
