If it's not getting any messages at all, that's a kernel/driver bug. Additional info: when I disable USB 2 in the BIOS on one of those machines, the kernel does see new devices when they are plugged in. So for USB 1 devices, this is a workaround, and maybe it gives the kernel develloppers a clue about the location of this bug. FC3 works fine on these machines, with USB 2 enabled in the BIOS. I'll try the 2.6.9 kernel from updates-testing on FC2 tomorrow to see if it solved the problem there also. Fedora Core 2 has now reached end of life, and no further updates will be provided by Red Hat. The Fedora legacy project will be producing further kernel updates for security problems only. If this bug has not been fixed in the latest Fedora Core 2 update kernel, please try to reproduce it under Fedora Core 3, and reopen if necessary, changing the product version accordingly.
