This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. This just happened (in a slightly different variation) on Fedora 27: After updating the system, the (kickstart) start menu button doesn't work at all anymore. Left click doesn't work anymore (right click does), Alt+F1 doesn't work either. They menu won't open. It's not possible to log out or shut down. Shutdown/Restart buttons gone, Logout button dead after update
Here's what it looks like in Fedora 30, after performing a system update using dnf update (couldn't use dnfdragora as it keeps saying "dnf is locked by another application" even though pidof /usr/bin/dnf doesn't find anything).
The shutdown/restart buttons have disappeared. If this leads users to pull the power plug, that's not good.
The logout button is dead as well so it's not possible to log out and then use the shutdown function in the login screen (gdm or lightdm). That's really not good. How is a regular user supposed to shutdown like this?
Fortunately, this command appears to work:
qdbus org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer logout 1 3 3
By the way. On a Fedora 31 system that's regularly being put in hibernation mode, the hibernate button has suddenly disappeared from the KDE menu. $ qdbus org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement CanHibernate && qdbus org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement Hibernate Service 'org.kde.Solid.PowerManagement' does not exist.
