Tested also with the latest rawhide kernel, version 4.7.0-0.rc6.git0.1.fc25.x86_64. The problem still persists. When I run the default installed program "glxgears" like this: "$ vblank_mode=0 glxgears" I get no screen flashing / tearing in the application window. And when I run the program without the vblank_mode=0 I get again tearing in the application window. The cpu is just used much more when the vblank_mode is set to 0. I deleted the xorg-x11-drv-intel package from my system and rebooted, and so the problem still persists. So this is not xorg-x11-drv-intel package problem? What it might be? I have a new Thinkpad L460 with the same issue. Screen is flickering randomly. The flickering looks like horizontal lines. Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6100U CPU @ 2.30GHz Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 (Skylake GT2) This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '24'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed. |
Created attachment 1177380 [details] Xorg log Description of problem: The screen flashes on ThinkPad x260 (skylake HD 520 graphics) on Fedora 24 (kernel 4.6.3-300.fc24.x86_64). For example, in Firefox if I go to bugzilla.redhat.com immediately after the page has loaded it flashes with black color the borders of the window (but not every time). Also if I resize emacs-nox in gnome-terminal it flashes. Sometimes the whole gnome-shell flashes, too (i'm using gnome as my DE). But the same flashing happens also in i3 window manager. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.99.917-23.20160512.fc24.x86_64 How reproducible: Gnome shell flashes once in about every 5-10 minutes when firefox is open. When firefox is not open it's not flashing so much (not 100% sure about this). Firefox flashes about every 3rd time when loading, for example, bugzilla.redhat.com Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use the system with firefox opened or 2. Resize (up and down and to all directions) gnome-terminal when it's running emacs-nox Actual results: Screen flashes Expected results: No flashing Additional info: I'm not sure if the problem is exactly in xorg-x11-drv-intel. The problem is also in wayland gnome.
