sc Weird

Description of problem: "Weird character, Decimal -1" displays immediately when starting application - and application HELP, cut/paste and other actions do not work. Rebooted multiple times to clear any local problems. Was working fine and I believe a version upgrade broke it. Checked by Ubuntu install and it is running sc-7.16-4 and is working fine

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): sc-7.16-3.fc24.x86_64

How reproducible: every time I open application.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run sc from command line
2. should see "Weird character, Decimal -1" on top left of screen
3. for example hit ? for help - but none of the help letters A-Z work

Actual results:

cat enter data into cells but cannot use vi like commands to cut/paste/move etc

Expected results:

spread sheet input and caluculations

Additional info:

version 4 on ubuntu seems to work fine - and the prior versions worked fine on Fedora.

Comment 1 Mat Booth 2016-07-19 15:44:42 UTC
Thanks for the report -- I see this too.

It appears to be caused by the upgrade to ncurses 6, which started honouring a "notimeout" setting that sc is using. This caused a tight-loop and breaking of multi-key commands.

I will submit an update with the patch from Debian shortly.
