Description internet657-redhat 2016-08-06 14:50:41 UTC
Description of problem:
When I turn the WIFI on and try to connect to a network, Fedora tries connecting to the network for a few seconds then the WIFI gets disabled.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 24. I am not sure of the precise component involved.

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Turn WIFI on.
2. Connect to a network.

Actual results:
Fedora tries connecting then the WIFI gets disabled.

Expected results:
Fedora tries connecting and manages connecting to the network.

Additional info:
My computer is an HP Compaq CQ58.
I had the exact same problem with Ubuntu. It was caused by the fact my BIOS was set to legacy instead of UEFI mode (if I remember correctly).
I upgraded Fedora using the exact same method as the one described in this article : https://fedoramagazine.org/upgrading-fedora-23-workstation-to-fedora-24/.
Other computers using Windows can't still connect to the WIFI network.

Comment 1 internet657-redhat 2016-08-16 17:15:13 UTC
Error in my bug description: "Other computers using Windows CAN still connect to the WIFI network."

Also, I still have my problem, but unusual things happened recently.
When wifi stopped working on fedora 24, I decided to boot with the previous version displayed when I boot my laptop. At first, wifi was working on this version, but on the next boot, the bug described here happened again on, as for the version before.
I then stopped using this laptop (which only has fedora) and used another computer as I had to finish urgent work requiring an Internet connection. For that reason, the laptop with fedora was put off for a few weeks.

I recently decided to turn on my laptop with fedora again to try to fix this wifi problem. I booted on 4.6.4-301.fc24.x86_64. However, this time, wifi was working. But there was no sound. My laptop wasn't plugged to a socket. I followed the recommendations on fedora wiki page and it appeared it wasn't linked to alsa but to the kernel.

I then restarted and booted on 4.5.7-202.fc23.x86_64, sound was working correctly. I forgot to check if the wifi was working correctly.
Then I restarted and booted on 4.6.4-201.fc23.x86_64, sound was working correctly but the wifi had the problem described hereby.
I then realized I forgot to check if the WIFI was working correctly on 4.6.4-201.fc23.x86_64, so I restarted and chose to boot on this version. As my laptop was running low on battery, I plugged it during fedora's starting. The wifi was having the problem described hereby.
When I restarted and booted again on 4.6.4-301.fc24.x86_64, sound appeared to be working, yet wifi had the problem described hereby again.

Comment 2 internet657-redhat 2016-08-16 22:22:23 UTC
I put my computer on again and booted directly on fedora 4.6.4-301.fc24.x86_64. This time, the Wi-Fi is working, but there is no sound.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-25 22:16:34 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2017-08-08 16:14:48 UTC
Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
