Description Ali Akcaagac 2016-08-24 12:55:30 UTC
Description of problem:
My iPhone 4 (not S) with iOS 7.1.2 (JB) won't show up under Fedora 24.
Usually I get two Icons on my desktop

1) Ali Akcaagac's iPhone (or something similar and)
2) Documents on Ali Akcaagac's iPhone (or similar texting)

Under 1) it should show my e.g. DCIM folder, Download folder and some random databases as well as all the F[0-9|A-Z]\+ Music folder etc.

Under 2) it should show all installed applications.

No matter what I try, I always get only the "Documents on Ali Akcaagac's iPhone" icon shown on my desktop (xfce).

Tried unpairing, pairing (which forces me to select "allow access" on my iphone) and then re-pairing again + validate.

Tried above a couple of times including reset etc. Still same issue. Then I took the iPhone and moved to a Fedora 20 and Fedora 22 installation (other Notebooks in this house) and voila... instantly found both icons...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
-bash-4.3$ rpm -qa | grep "mobiledevice*"
libimobiledevice-utils-1.2.0-7.fc24.x86_64

-bash-4.3$

Fedora 24 x86_64 and kernel 4.6.7-300.fc24.x86_64

How reproducible:
As described above

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Fedora 24 (x86_64) and update to latest stuff
2. Plugin your iPhone 4 /7.1.2) Pangu JB
3. Only "Documents on ..." folder shows up

Actual results:
Only "Documents on ..." folder shows up

Expected results:
Both Icons to show up.

This is as expected so as not to corrupt the device. Explanation from the mailing list:

Yup. The "normal" mount contains nothing that normal users should access.
Accessing the photos will leave ghosts on the device, and there have been no
ways to update the music database in Linux for a few iOS releases.

You can still access the device by editing the URL in the "Documents on..."
location. Just remove the ":3" at the end.

If you have use cases that aren't the 2 mentioned above, or using your iDevice
as a thumb drive, please file bugs against gvfs in the upstream GNOME Bugzilla.

Yes! I am using this to store some extra stuff on the iPhone like important Documents etc.. At least you told me how to access the device by removing the :3 at the end. I'm going to test this and consider a report to BGO.
