I just tested this with: 

RHEL-7.6-20180715.n.0
gnome-software-3.28.2-2.el7.x86_64

Using File -> Close, Inkscape will close the current file and create the next sequential file and maximize the subsequent file that is opened.

We don't have enough resources to deal with such low severity bugs. Closing as wontfix.
