Description Rick Dicaire 2016-09-08 16:19:16 UTC
Description of problem:

Kernel update 4.7.2-201 makes the display have 'washed out' colors. It appears that when the console is resized during boot, black turns to dark grey, and all other colors appear 'washed out'. This washed out appearance is also evident once xorg loads, and the login dialog appears. After login the washed out appearance remains. 4.6.7-300 kernel does not have this behavior.

Affected machine is a desktop with Intel i915 vga.

How is this xorg related, the problem manifests before xorg loads.

Comment 3 Rick Dicaire 2016-09-20 17:25:37 UTC
Thanks for the response, that helps me better understand.

Comment 4 Rick Dicaire 2016-10-27 14:52:13 UTC
Has there been any movement on this? I'm not updating kernels since I reported this problem.

Comment 5 Rick Dicaire 2016-11-15 17:36:17 UTC
Problem still exists with kernel version 4.8.6-201.

Comment 6 Rick Dicaire 2017-02-18 00:59:12 UTC
Upgraded to fedora 25, kernel Linux daw3.ldev 4.9.9-200.fc25.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Feb 9 17:28:13 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Problem still exists.

Comment 7 Rick Dicaire 2017-02-18 20:23:26 UTC
Disabling frame buffer fixes this. Added nomodeset to kernel commandline. Seems when the framebuffer is created at boot, it changes not only the resolution of the console, but the color palette. I tried a Ubuntu 16.04 livecd as well as F25 livecd and saw same behaviour. This is upstream kernel.
