No chat support for Google anymore?

I have noticed that gnome-control-center does not have a "chat" option for Google accounts anymore. Is it possible that Empathy is trying to connect to an unsupported service using those credentials and Google blocks it accordingly?

You can configure Google Talk within Empathy. You can't use your Google account password, though, you must use a Google App Password:

These are Google policies. I guess that's the reason why configuring online accounts is not enough anymore.

Yes, this is intentional. Since Fedora 24 we disabled the Telepathy integration in Settings -> Online Accounts, and empathy is no longer shipped by default. See:
https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-meeting/2016-01-06/workstation.2016-01-06-15.00.html

These days the empathy / telepathy stack of software components ranges from unmaintained to very weakly maintained. That's why we want to gradually withdraw it from Fedora Workstation.

Very bad, I wanted to have a well-integrated IM client in the system. Running the IM client in the browser is not as effective especially if you want to be online at the same time in whatsapp, google talk, skype, Viber, Telegram, ICQ, etc.
