Downgraded to FC2's xorg-x11 works fine again.
Any specific module I can replace to pindown the problem in FC3's
xorg-x11?

Comment 5 Mike A. Harris 2004-11-23 08:59:29 UTC
I would assume if it used to work and doesn't anymore that it's
either a configuration problem, possibly due to some config file
syntax or similar changes (although I don't have examples, I do
know that each release some things change which bites people
occasionally), or the driver has a glitch in it, in which case
the module in question would be the driver itself. Since the
driver changes enormously between major X releases due to numerous
feature improvements, driver cleanups, and support for new hardware,
knowing it worked in FC2 and not in FC3 doesn't help much because
a diff between the driver in FC2 and the one in FC3 would be
several megabytes likely, not counting gratuitous whitespace
changes.

Your best bet is likely to file a bug report in freedesktop.org
bugzilla where Hui Yu from ATI, and numerous other radeon driver
developers will see it who may be more likely to have the
physical hardware to try to reproduce the problem, and have a
better chance at trying to fix the issue. I don't know if
anyone on our X development team has physical access to
Radeon Mobility hardware, which greatly limits our ability
to debug the issues directly.

If you file a bug upstream, please include the bug URL here, so
we can track it though.

Hope this helps.

Comment 6 Mike A. Harris 2004-11-23 09:01:39 UTC
One thing I just noticed by the corner of my eye, is that your
config file does not have a "Screen" directive present for
Screen 0. That alone will stop dualhead from working. If our
config tool generated this file and it has not been modified,
then our config tool is buggy. Please add:

    Screen "0"

to the Device section above the one with Screen "1" in it, and
restart the server. If dualhead works, then we've found the
problem - buggy Red Hat system-config-display.

Please update the report with your results.

Mike West's 7500 xorg.conf

This is the xorg.conf running on my Dell Inspiron 5100. Dual head *was* working
on RH9, FC2 and broke on FC3.

Mike West X log when only using laptop screen

X log output when only the laptop screen is in use. No other devices are
attached to the Video Card.

Mike West X log when attempting to run Dual Head

Mike West X log when attempting Dual Head. In this case, I have a CTX 17"
monitor attached. Note that the same xorg.conf file was used both in this X
session, and in my previously attached session (i.e, "panelOnly" session).

Comment 10 Mike West 2005-03-30 21:18:39 UTC
Looks like there is a bug opened over at freedesktop on this topic:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2069

Comment 11 Leon Ho 2005-04-04 06:32:36 UTC
adding Screen "0" does not work for me.

Comment 12 Mike A. Harris 2005-04-15 11:09:05 UTC
Leon: Does this problem still occur with the latest Rawhide xorg-x11
build 6.8.2-22 or later? Many radeon fixes are present, please test
and update.

Comment 13 Leon Ho 2005-04-19 23:58:27 UTC
Do you have FC3 packages? I do not have rawhide on my production laptop, which
has the Radeon Mobility 7500.

Comment 14 Mike A. Harris 2005-04-20 11:47:19 UTC
llch: Sure, grab 'em from: latest-pkg dist-fc3-scratch xorg-x11

Comment 15 Leon Ho 2005-04-28 04:38:01 UTC
Same thing happened. Screen only showed in Monitor 1.

version: 6.8.2-1.FC3.13test.24

Comment 16 Mike A. Harris 2006-01-27 11:08:41 UTC
Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major
updates to the X Window System, which may resolve this issue. Users
who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade to the
latest version of Fedora Core, which can be obtained from:

        http://fedora.redhat.com/download

If this issue turns out to still be reproduceable in the latest
version of Fedora Core, please file a bug report in the X.Org
bugzilla located at http://bugs.freedesktop.org in the "xorg"
component.

Once you've filed your bug report to X.Org, if you paste the new
bug URL here, Red Hat will continue to track the issue in the
centralized X.Org bug tracker, and will review any bug fixes that
become available for consideration in future updates.

Setting status to "RAWHIDE".
