Everything I've read indicates that there is no public API for the new VMware tags system.

"Unfortunately, the Web Client Tags are actually stored and managed by the Inventory Service, separate from the vSphere API (and database).

Currently the only official version for managing the vSphere Web Client Tags is PowerCLI." - https://communities.vmware.com/thread/482030

"Today, there are no vSphere APIs for Tags..." - http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2015/01/custom-attributes-vsphere-tags.html

Without an API we cannot retrieve tags inventory, this will have to be resolved before we can add this feature.

James can you take a look at this?
