Note on using storage profiles when provisioning
Added to Provisioning Hosts and VMs (Section 2.8. Provisioning Virtual Machines)
Hi Adam and Greg, I've added a bit of draft content on using VMware storage profiles with CloudForms -- would either of you be able to review and let me know of any fixes/additions to make? (Or if you're the wrong people, please feel free to pass along this needinfo). I've attached the new content in two screenshots: - The new section in Comment 3 will go in https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-cloudforms/4.2-beta/single/managing-infrastructure-and-inventory/#sect_virtual_machines - The note in Comment 4 will go in step 10 of https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-cloudforms/4.2-beta/single/provisioning-virtual-machines-and-hosts/#provisioning-virtual-machines Also, I had a few questions: * Outside of provisioning, can you apply/edit a storage profile to a virtual machine in Cloudforms? Or is all that done in VMware? * Terminology: Storage profile or storage policy? I'm seeing it used interchangeably in VMware and CloudForms. * Can a VM have more than one storage profile assigned? Thanks so much for your help, Dayle Hi Dayle, The drafts look great! 1. You cannot apply/edit a storage profile in Cloudforms yet, that will have to be done in VMware. 2. VMware has used both in the past, they seem to be moving towards calling them policies but internally they still call them profiles (ref: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsp#com.vmware.vspsdk.apiref.doc/pbm.profile.Profile.html) 3. A VM/disk can only have a single profile assigned. A datastore can have multiple but we do not display these on the UI yet. Let me know if you have any more questions Adam, thanks for the feedback and answers -- much appreciated! This CloudForms 4.2 feature has been documented in the following guide: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-cloudforms/4.2/single/managing-infrastructure-and-inventory/ |
