Description Peter Robinson 2016-10-10 14:58:28 UTC
When composing emails in Fedora 25 the red underline comes up on a badly spelled word but when you right click on it you don't get any corrections. Similarly the menu item is greyed out and F7 has no response.

Comment 1 Milan Crha 2016-10-12 16:00:08 UTC
Thanks for a bug report. Can I ask you what your evolution version is, please? The date partly clashes with 3.22.1 release, for which I doubt you had a change to have. The reason I ask is a fix for bug [1], though it's possible it's completely unrelated (the fix contains some changes which feel related, but I'm not that used to this part of the code).

bah, sorry usually include that:

evolution-ews-3.22.0-1.fc25.x86_64
evolution-data-server-3.22.0-1.fc25.x86_64
evolution-3.22.0-1.fc25.x86_64

Comment 3 Peter Robinson 2016-10-12 16:05:45 UTC
I don't see 3.22.1 in F-25 updates just yet, will test once I see it land

Comment 4 Milan Crha 2016-10-12 16:24:17 UTC
It had been released only on Monday. The builds are in koji, but kalev will do a usual GNOME mega update some time soon (the evolution packages are part of the f25-gnome tag).

yes, I figured all that, just haven't had time to look that far :)

Comment 6 Peter Robinson 2016-11-20 12:57:37 UTC
Still an issue with the latest f25 evolutions:
evolution-3.22.1-2.fc25.x86_64
evolution-ews-3.22.1-1.fc25.x86_64
evolution-data-server-3.22.1-1.fc25.x86_64

Comment 7 Milan Crha 2016-11-21 14:03:20 UTC
Tomas, do you have any idea, please?

Comment 8 Tomas Popela 2016-11-21 14:31:11 UTC
I'm aware of the problem, but I don't have an idea..

Comment 9 Peter Robinson 2016-11-21 14:33:47 UTC
Well it's a regression from F-24 so can someone bisect it?

Comment 10 Milan Crha 2016-11-21 15:17:39 UTC
Fedora 24, aka evolution 3.20.x, uses WebKit1 (webkitgtk3), while Fedora 25+, aka evolution 3.22.x, uses WebKit2 (webkitgtk4). That's a huge change and one (the main) part of the problem. I can look on it, unless Tom will be quicker.

Comment 11 Peter Robinson 2016-12-20 06:24:59 UTC
So I looked at this a little more and I've got further into the issue.

It seems that there's no language set. If on a compose window I go into Edit -> Current Languages and select "English (United Kingdom)" the spell check starts to work.

The problem is even if I select a language in that menu each time I compose a new message it resets. Will dig further when I get some time but I'm not sure why it's not just defaulting to the system wide language as set in control panel.

Comment 12 Milan Crha 2016-12-20 07:57:44 UTC
The Evolution has its setting in Edit->Preferences->Composer Preferences->Spell Checking tab.

Comment 13 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 18:54:37 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 14 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 11:04:46 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
