How did you run apper? I cannot reproduce this running it by hand. The backtrace shows that this comes from the PackageKit session service:
#3 0x000055c2f3bb1b8e in main (argc=<optimized out>, argv=<optimized out>) at /usr/src/debug/apper-0.9.3/PkSession/main.cpp:49

It looks like the K4AboutData is not getting set, probably a regression from the KF5 port. (It worked in the kdelibs4 version.)
Just run it from KMenu or from tray. I didn't mention. OK, then I cannot reproduce the crash (not on f24 at least, with the same apper version... so it may be f25 or qt-5.7.x specific) (In reply to Rex Dieter from comment #17) > OK, then I cannot reproduce the crash (not on f24 at least, with the same > apper version... so it may be f25 or qt-5.7.x specific) Maybe, I think you can just boot F25 and try to install google-chrome rpm from their website to reproduce. I can reproduce this crash on F25 by launching virt-manager without having the libvirtd.service active. also by clicking an rpm I downloaded using Firefox. (From withing the Firefox download manager.) Similar problem has been detected: I am unsure how the problem happened nor how it can be reproduced. I use Fedorea 25 on both i686+PAE architecture and x86_64 architecture with KDE and without extra repositories, and with the latest updates. I have seen this happen on both architectures. I am unsure if this is a KDE-related bug or something else, but am reporting it through ABRT in case it is helpful to developers. reporter: libreport-2.8.0 backtrace_rating: 4 cmdline: /usr/libexec/apper-pk-session crash_function: K4AboutData::appName executable: /usr/libexec/apper-pk-session global_pid: 2639 kernel: 4.8.12-300.fc25.i686+PAE package: apper-0.9.3-0.3.20160329.fc25 pkg_fingerprint: 4089 D8F2 FDB1 9C98 pkg_vendor: Fedora Project reason: apper-pk-session killed by SIGSEGV runlevel: N 5 type: CCpp uid: 1000 *** Bug 1410998 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 1429000 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Similar problem has been detected: just trying to install an package as normal reporter: libreport-2.8.0 backtrace_rating: 4 cmdline: /usr/libexec/apper-pk-session crash_function: K4AboutData::appName executable: /usr/libexec/apper-pk-session global_pid: 3729 kernel: 4.9.13-201.fc25.i686+PAE package: apper-0.9.3-0.5.20161109.fc25 pkg_fingerprint: 4089 D8F2 FDB1 9C98 pkg_vendor: Fedora Project reason: apper-pk-session killed by SIGSEGV runlevel: N 5 type: CCpp uid: 1000 *** Bug 1406789 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Tracking @ upstream https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375347 Similar problem has been detected: Opened an rpm bei double-click in dolphin. reporter: libreport-2.8.0 backtrace_rating: 4 cmdline: /usr/libexec/apper-pk-session crash_function: K4AboutData::appName executable: /usr/libexec/apper-pk-session global_pid: 17927 kernel: 4.9.13-201.fc25.x86_64 package: apper-0.9.3-0.5.20161109.fc25 pkg_fingerprint: 4089 D8F2 FDB1 9C98 pkg_vendor: Fedora Project reason: apper-pk-session killed by SIGSEGV runlevel: N 5 type: CCpp uid: 1000 *** Bug 1433440 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** apper-0.9.3-0.8.20170226.fc26 has been pushed to the Fedora 26 testing repository.
