Description bigswitch 2016-10-19 19:18:55 UTC
We observe that when a VM using vhostuser (in client mode) interface disconnects from a virtual switch (eg: when vswitch (server mode) restart), even when the vswitch reconnects with the vhost socket, the interface is still down. Searching around, we found that QEMU needs to be enhanced to support this. We would like these commits (and other dependent commits) available to our RHOSP compute nodes as well.

Can you try it with the latest upstream versions for QEMU and DPDK? Many
improvements for vhost-user reconnect were introduced since May 16.

Thanks,
Amnon

How would the customers get a hold of these fixes in deployment? Are the bug fixes part of RHOSP9 or RHOSP10?

Comment 3 Amnon Ilan 2016-11-04 00:18:50 UTC
These fixes are available in RHEL7.3.
Franck, can you answer regarding RHOSP versions?

Bigswitch, since we are still working on further enhancements to
vhost-user reconnect, it could help if you can test the upstream
versions as well, and point to specific use cases that fail there.

RHOSP8, 9 and 10 will run on RHEL 7.3. If no patches are required (it seems to me that no patches are required but this has to be confirmed) on OpenStack to fix the issue and is 100% fixed by RHEL 7.3, the bug will be fixed.
