2.7 was released in early September and has significant improvements over 2.6.5, particularly with regard to subpixel hinting.

This is a significant upgrade - the reddit thread has 450 upvotes - and should be included in F25.

2.7 is a major release which has some important changes. The release happened after Alpha freeze (actually after Alpha release). I don't rebase freetype after Alpha freeze.
