We have accumulated quite a few patches, and to keep ABI versioning sane, it's much better to rebase to latest upstream release rather than cherry-picking patches adding new ABI to older versions.
As I understand, this does not break the current ABI, but does add new ABI only.
Please correct me, if I am wrong.

That's correct, the additions are about 10 new exported methods.
Since the problem described in this bug report should be
resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a
resolution of ERRATA.
