Description David Orman 2016-10-31 14:54:55 UTC
Description of problem:

On a wired connection, in the default/interface profile, if you attempt to update the 'Password' field in the 'Security' tab (testing using PEAP, no anonymous identity, no ca cert required checked, PEAP version automatic, inner authentication MSCHAPv2, username filled out) and click apply, it appears to take the update. However, if you re-enter this area and click 'show password', the password is not actually updated.

How reproducible:

Attempt to update a password for 802.1x security with the above settings.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Setup a connection as above
2. Open the configuration, and change the password field, then click 'Apply'
3. Re-open the dialog and open the 'Security' tab and click 'Show password'.

Actual results:

The password will be un-changed.

Expected results:

The password will be changed.

Additional info:

Attempting to 'reset' the connection via this dialog causes the GUI configuration application to crash. The only way I've found to update this password is to disable 802.1x auth, save, then open the profile and re-enable it. You get a prompt for the password on the first network login, and it appears to save correctly.

Hi,

I assume you are using the nm-connection-editor GUI (and not the Gnome 3 control center), right?
Which version of the package do you have?

Comment 2 David Orman 2016-10-31 18:03:02 UTC
Hi,

I am using what I assume is the gnome 3 software. The nm-connection-editor software is slightly different in interface, and does appear to save the password. However, nm-connection-editor appears to un-set the no CA certificate option on save, a slightly different issue (not sure if it impacts functionality at this point, I can't test, but it is definitely deselected when re-opening the connection configuration).

Feel free to shuffle this bug if the Gnome 3 control panel (the method available via the GUI when clicking on the network status indicator in the upper right) method of editing connections does not belong here, my apologies.

Comment 4 Anton Vasiljev 2017-05-03 12:23:52 UTC
Same problem here. Cannot update password via control center while nm-connection-editor works fine.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 18:54:39 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:44:25 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
