Description Chris Blum 2016-11-04 14:58:58 UTC
Document URL:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Storage/3.1/html/Administration_Guide/sect-NFS.html#sect-NFS_Ganesha

Section Number and Name:
7.2.4.3. Highly Available Active-Active NFS-Ganesha

Describe the issue:
The Note under the sample ganesha-ha.conf states:
"PCS handles the creation of the VIP and assigning a interface."

But down at 7.2.4.4.1. Prerequisites to run NFS-Ganesha
there is a point stating:
"Create multiple virtual IPs (VIPs) on the network for each of the servers configured in the ganesha-ha.conf file and assign them to any unused NIC."

This is a contradiction!

Hi Kaleb,

Can you please share your opinion regarding the contradictory content. Which of the sections should be edited/reworded ?

Thanks

The above is correct, but change PCS to Pacemaker.

   But down at 7.2.4.4.1. Prerequisites to run NFS-Ganesha

IMO, delete the "assign them to any unused NIC" part.

The prerequisite is: the the admin must obtain or reserve the IPs he or she wishes to used for the VIPs in the cluster. They must be different than the hosts' static IPs and not be used anywhere else in the cluster or in the subnet. The admin needs to pick the host that each is nominally assigned to and enter them in the ganesha-ha.conf file, e.g.:

  ...
  VIP_server1_lab_redhat_com="10.81.43.101"
  VIP_server2_lab_redhat_com="10.81.43.102"
  ...

Hi Kaleb,

The Note in 7.2.4.3 is changed as suggested.

For the point in 7.2.4.4.1. Prerequisites to run NFS-Ganesha is changed to the following:

"Reserve virtual IPs on the network for each of the servers configured in the ganesha.conf file. Ensure that these IPs are different than the hosts' static IPs and are not used anywhere else in the trusted storage pool or in the subnet."

Let me know if this conveys the message.

Comment 8 Kaleb KEITHLEY 2017-02-20 01:59:55 UTC
Yes, IMO it conveys the message.
