Description Damon Harris 2016-11-10 15:00:17 UTC
Description of problem:
An outdated version of KeePass is currently available for Fedora 24. The latest version contains many security enchantments so it is urgently required to update the build in the repository

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.32-2.fc24

Comment 1 Peter Oliver 2016-11-10 19:01:27 UTC
Many security enhancements? I'm aware only of one, around automatic updates. I would expect Fedora users to be taking their updates from Fedora, so this seems low risk.

Comment 2 Damon Harris 2016-11-10 19:41:52 UTC
There are other security enchantments like support for signed version information files for plugins and "lock" when minimising to the tray.

Aside from the security, it also contains several other enchantments.

Please update the package as soon as possible.

Comment 3 Peter Oliver 2016-11-10 20:17:32 UTC
Plugin version signing is optional. This is a new feature.

Keepass 2.30 already has the option "Lock workspace when minimizing main window", which is stricter than the new option.

Fedora's updates policy is that updates should aim only to fix bugs, not introduce new features. See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Updates_Policy#Stable_Releases. I'm afraid that for this fix to reach Fedora 24, someone would need to volunteer to backport the new update behaviour to version 2.30. This work would be made harder because the Keepass project does not have public source control.

Sorry that that's not what you wanted to hear.

Comment 4 Damon Harris 2016-11-10 20:22:07 UTC
Hmm... I see :(

The main reason why I wanted an update is because one of my plugins is not working in the old version.

Also, I see that there is a latest version of Keepass available for F25, why is that?

With every new release of Fedora, the update policy is to use the latest stable release of upstream available at the time.

I suggest you create a copr, and upload the f25 sprm, and see if that builds for f24.
Oh well, I just did that: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/tpokorra/keepass/
The builds for F24 succeeded. Now you can enable that copr on your Fedora 24, update keepass and you have the latest version of keepass.

Hmm... Thanks :)

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-25 23:50:11 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2017-08-08 19:13:15 UTC
Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
