Description Carl George 2016-11-29 18:51:54 UTC
Description of problem:
Python 3.4's entire ssl module was backported to 2.7.9 [1]. However, docker-py still requires backports.ssl_match_hostname for any Python version less than 3.5. I opened an upstream bug [2] for this discrepancy. If upstream is not interested in fixing it, I would like to help patch the RPM to do the right thing.

Comment 1 Tomas Tomecek 2016-11-30 13:38:17 UTC
Carl, thank you for opening this.

Unfortunately I won't drop the requirement (now) because the version of "match_hostname" in 2.7.9 doesn't support ServerAltNames validation ( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1229409#c9 ) -- docker-py relies on this, that's why I opened: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1379594.

As soon as the code is ported to 2.9.x I'm fine with dropping the requirement.

Thanks for the extra info Tomas, hopefully the Python 2 ssl module continues to get improvements.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-26 00:00:50 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Carl George 2017-07-26 15:39:59 UTC
I don't see a point in keeping this bug open anymore. Continuing to use backports.ssl_match_hostname is more appealing than hoping for another ssl backport to Python 2.7.
