Description Steven Walter 2016-12-07 22:55:58 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request
Support for samba / cifs as a storage provider for PVs

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
Customer would like to be able to create PVs backed by samba/cifs

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Existing storage infrastructure needs support in OpenShift

5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)
Same as the other persistent volumes; still confirming if dynamic provisioning is needed

6. For each functional requirement listed in question 5, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.
Create a pv based on samba/cifs

7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat bugzilla?

Additionally the customer is hoping that we could support a "direct" mount in the way we can with, for instance, hostpath or nfs, which bypasses a PV by directly defining the volume in the DC.

This bug has been identified as a dated (created more than 3 months ago) bug.
This bug has been triaged (has a trello card linked to it), or reviewed by Engineering/PM and has been put into the product backlog,
however this bug has not been slated for a currently planned release (3.9, 3.10 or 3.11), which cover our releases for the rest of the calendar year.

As a result of this bugs age, state on the current roadmap and PM Score (being below 70), this bug is being Closed - Differed,
as it is currently not part of the products immediate priorities.

Good day,

I would like to request this RFE is 're-activated'

We have a customer, who is requesting SMB/CIFS PV backed storage (As per Steven's original RFE request description)

Cu related details

**) Who is the customer behind the request?
    Account name: (Acct. # ) 998818
    SRM customer: no
    TAM customer: no
    Strategic Customer: no

**) Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies?
    Yes : End June 2019

** ) Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
    Yes

**) Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?
    Yes

The cu is currently reviewing and will be testing functionality RE the following blog https://github.com/sabre1041/openshift-flexvolume-cifs. We believe that this is due to be published on Feb 1.
However the cu requires production support. I am in contact with the Account team, and they will be happy to build a case to move this forward.

I have been in communication with Andrew Block, and he advises that he too, has many customers requiring this functionality.
