Description of problem:
See screenshots.
Such event enlarges when mouse pointer is over it but doesn't provide any details when clicked.
It appears in every timeline if several event categories are chosen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
5.7.0.14

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make sure you have management events for some vm
2. open Timelines for that vm in IE11
3. Setup Timelines filter to display the events of all categories
4. Click Apply button

Actual results:
Every timeline shows half of event on the left edge.
This event doesn't provide any details if clicked.

Expected results:
no such phantom events

Dana,

Can you please look into this. Let me know if you have questions or need help.

Thanks,
~Harpreet

The timeline only makes events if there's a matching node in the JSON that it's given. This is probably a data formatting issue.

Comment 5 Harpreet Kataria 2016-12-21 14:44:03 UTC
Chris,

I am not sure how this is a data issue, reporter is complaining that the timeline event is sticking to the left edge and only half of the event icon is visible in IE. See attached screenshot. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
~Harpreet

The events showing halfway over the line is expected currently if there is an event at the very start of the time period. We are unable to reproduce the issue where the event doesn't provide any details if clicked.

It seems to me that there is some confusion about what specifically is the issue that needs to be addressed and any clarification you can provide would be very helpful. From what I can tell, there are a few things going on here.

1. From the screenshot, it appears that there is an "event" that is generated for every single row in the chart that happens at the exact same instant.

2. These events do not produce anything when clicked, possibly because they contain no content.

3. These events are shifted slightly off the edge of the timeline.

#3 has to do with the placement of the first appearing event, is repeatable, and happens in cases that do not also include #1 and #2.

#1 and #2 I suspect are related and seem to have to do with the set of events passed into the chart. This kind of situation looks like it could be caused by a malformed JSON causing the timeline to render a row of empty events.

Are all of these relevant to the current ticket? If not, which specifically are you concerned about?

Comment 10 Ievgen Zapolskyi 2017-01-11 13:30:25 UTC
Chris, all those points are relevant. That's what I tried to say in the ticket.

I've also attached some evidence - chart's html code with all those timeline's drops. You can see that it contains 5 events with data and one empty event.

Hi Ievgen - we are unable to reproduce this in an IE11 environment. There is never an extra data item created in the HTML.

Would you be able to meet to discuss and possibly see if we can see your environment for a repro case?

Have you been able to see this in other browsers?
What is the exact version of IE you are running?
Has this been tested in your environment with a different version of IE?

Thank you - it might be quicker to e-mail me separately at dgutride

Comment 13 Ievgen Zapolskyi 2017-01-20 14:25:29 UTC
Hi Dana,

1. I didn't see this in other browsers.
2. I used IE 11 browser if please let me know if you need its patch version.
3. I haven't tested this issue in other IE versions. I can check it in IE10 if you want.

I've written to you recently but you probably haven't seen my email.

Please find me in IRC and I'll provide you the environment where you can reproduce this issue.

Comment 14 dgutride 2017-02-15 14:24:38 UTC
Dan - I've moved this to you - we aren't able to repro this with the regular timeline code, we think something in the data is being corrupted in the API response in IE11.
