DNS configuration is now supported through the D-Bus API Previously, external applications could not easily retrieve the `DNS` parameters used by *NetworkManager*. With this update, DNS configuration has been supported through the D-Bus API. As a result, all DNS-related information, including name servers and domains, is available to client applications through the D-Bus API of *NetworkManager*. An example of such application is the *nmcli* tool, which can now display DNS configuration.

Description Beniamino Galvani 2016-12-14 08:29:43 UTC
The DNS configuration learned by NM should be available through
D-Bus. This has many advantages: first, clients can figure out which
DNS servers are currently in use. One complaint that we hear often
when using dnsmasq is that the current DNS configuration can't be
easily retrieved. With the configuration available via D-Bus it
becomes possible to show it through nmcli.

Also, this should allow a better cooperation with other tools that
also manage the DNS. In principle, the user could set dns=none in NM
and have an external process pull the DNS parameters from NM to apply
them.

Feature now available upstream (see GNOME bugzilla entry).
