Description Andrew Gormanly 2004-12-02 16:10:18 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.4.3)

Description of problem:
RHSA-2004:549
(https://rhn.redhat.com/network/errata/details/package_list.pxt?eid=2499)
does not appear to include a built kernel RPM for SMP Intel EM64T arch
machines (no kernel-smp-2.4.21-20.0.1.EL.ia32e.rpm)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.4.21-20.0.1.EL

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to errata download page
2.
3.

Actual Results: Can download uniprocessor ia32e kernel and uni- and
smp x86-64 kernels, don't see smp ia32e built rpm

Expected Results: A kernel built for this arch too.

Additional info:

This leaves a choice: run machines on 1 cpu only, or leave them
vulnerable to security holes this new kernel fixes. Both options are
bad...

Comment 2 Chris Lee 2004-12-02 20:23:32 UTC
Closing. (IA32e is always SMP because of hyperthreading according to Dave
Jones.)

Maybe we could make a note of this somewhere, but please download the IA32E
kernel and if it fails to detect your multiple CPUs reopen this bug or file a
new one.
