Description yousifjkadom@yahoo.com 2017-02-04 13:08:59 UTC
Hi. At 2 / 2 / 2017 I received upgrade for my Fedora 24 X64 Cinnamon edition. This update involve Cinnamon & new default themes: Arc, Arc-solid, Arc-dark, Arc-dark-solid.

Let me explaining:

- before this update I was already activated dark theme mode,

- but since I installed Cinnamon edition of Fedora many months ago, I noticed that dark theme mode in it NOT EFFECTIVELY WORKING as oposite to it in GNOME edition of Fedora.

- at 2 / 2 / 2017 I received this new update, & after restart PC I saw dark theme mode really working: it effect really all aspect of screen & windows as in GNOME Fedora.

- however, I try to disable dark theme mode, but it remain sticky !!

- I restart PC & it is still sticky till now !!

I think that they fix something but break other thing !

Any one can help please ?

Have you tried to disable dark-theme-mode (you need to restart your applications for it to take effect) and after that selected a non-dark theming?

Comment 2 yousifjkadom@yahoo.com 2017-02-04 17:14:29 UTC
Hi. Yes I did. And I repeated my trail after you ask me.

When I select non-dark theme, only appear white (non dark) what appear when I click over menu, calender, wifi, ...... in panel of DE. BUT IT OTHERWISE DARK !! I mean by that:

- when I open firefox dark mode still sticky !

- when I open GNOME software it also appear with dark theme mode !

- when click over "File" in panel, then appear my home as dark mode ! & when

- I click on any folder to open it, then dark mode is still sticky !

- Any other application I open, appear with dark mode sticky !

White (non dark) only appear when I click on icons in panel. I try all default themes (old & new).

Best.

Do you have "Use a dark theme-variant?" activated in Themes -> Settings? Did you change the theming for windows-decoration and general appearance, too?

I tried to change the theming several times on a fresh install and cannot reproduce…

Comment 4 yousifjkadom@yahoo.com 2017-02-05 12:20:51 UTC
I try all default available themes one by one:

- Cinnamon
- Arc
- Arc-solid
- Arc-dark
- Arc-dark-solid
- Menta
- Blue-menta
- Green-submarine
- Blue-submarine
- Black-mate

I try them all (after deactivate "dark theme mode" from system setting. I restarted applications after each change but fail ! And after each failure I restart PC but it failed also. After failure by restart PC, I try other theme by same steps & all failed !

There are errors in update. Please look for this post (other complain from errors after update):

There are no errors, just the default-theme changed.

Asking the second time: Did you change the theming for windows-decoration and general appearance, too? (Those are separate setting besides the theme used for Cinnamon)

Try setting the 'Controls' theme to 'Arc' or 'Blue-menta'

Comment 7 yousifjkadom@yahoo.com 2017-02-05 17:38:53 UTC
Hi. Why you closed this bug called it not a bug ! At least wait my replay.

1) to Bjorn "besser82" Esser: Sorry I forget to mention this point: NO ! I did not change the theming for windows-decoration. Please see screenshot no.2

2) to leight scott: I did what you command me:

- 1st I go to system setting, then click theme, then disable dark theme mode
- 2nd I restart PC
- 3rd I go to system setting, then click theme, then select 'Arc'
- 4th I restart PC

After that I take following screenshoots (from 1 to 8). Please, please notice that all these screen shot taken after finishing all 4 steps just I discribed above.

Please look for dark areas ! Is this normal or they should - as I understand by disable dark theme mode - appear white ?

I believe Arc-Dark overrides that setting

I try Arc-Dark & not work !! I try it before you ask me. Though I try it again !

Does this could be related to hardware ? My system is Lenovo ThinkPad e550.

Does this could be due to effect of certain package installed on my system by me & conflict in certain way with themes ?

> Why you closed this bug called it not a bug !

Because it's not a bug.

Set "Window boarders", "Controls" and "Desktop" to "Arc" (NOT Arc-Dark!!!) and reboot. All is fine then; look at Leigh's screenshot.

It's not caused by hardware, nor by any package installed on your system, neither a bug in Cinnamon or the cinnamon-package.

Comment 20 yousifjkadom@yahoo.com 2017-02-05 22:48:35 UTC
Hi. Yes you are correct ! I understand now. I change windows decoration & noticed that it is not a bug. If I chose Arc or Adwaita, then deactivation of dark theme mode is working. But if I select Arc-Dark for windows decoration, then deactivation of dark theme mode will not work.

Sorry for this, but it is my mistake alone. What happened is that I did not alter windows decoration before. I just changed theme (from theme to other theme). When I received this update, it led to change windows decoration to Arc-Dark without my intention & because I did not touch windows decoration, then I confused !

Sorry again. I take from your time. However, I got from this knowledge about hidden power in my great DE (Cinnamon). Thank you for being patient with me.

Never mind! I'm glad we could sort that out. =)

Hello,

Great help by Bjorn.

Mine issue was: Editor, Termainal, FileZilla and other software background had gone dark grey and it was difficult to use it.

Changing to ARC worked.

But my terminal is still in dark background and when i use vi to see code etc its not readable. Initially i had terminal also in white background, how can i change terminal background to white?

I am using Fedora 25 with Cinnamon them.

Thanks.
