Description onefreshdude 2017-02-21 21:21:56 UTC
Hi, I'm having the exact same issue as Bug #1264453, except on the x240. My touchpad firmware is also on 8.1. Is there anyway this bug fix can be applied to the x240? Thanks for the help.

Comment 1 onefreshdude 2017-02-21 21:53:18 UTC
I followed the same steps, except I changed the "220" in line libinput:name:SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad:dmi:*svnLENOVO:*:pvrThinkPadX220* to 240.

This made the jitter go away, however now the touchpad is much too slow. How could I fix that?

Comment 2 Peter Hutterer 2017-02-22 00:15:47 UTC
hmm, the 240 doesn't have the same touchpad as the 230, so it isn't affected by the firmware the same way, so I can't recommend using that quirk since that one is specific to that hardware. The x240 has the same touchpad as the T440 which I have in front of me here. What exactly is the problem you're seeing?

When I move my finger on the touchpad very slowly, the cursor will stop moving, and then it will eventually jump to another position.

Makes it very hard to click small things such as the x's on internet browser tabs.

I will try to record a video/gif of it happening if that will help.

did you update the firmware at some point? I'm surprised it does that, the 40 series was pretty good but the 50 series has that problem. Either way, I'm currently working on tweaking the pointer acceleration again which makes this problem go away to some degree

Comment 7 onefreshdude 2017-02-22 03:58:16 UTC
I might have automatically done it on Windows through lenovo's updater app. And awesome! Sounds great. I noticed it doesn't do it on the xf86-input-synaptics driver.

Comment 8 Peter Hutterer 2017-02-22 07:00:43 UTC
synaptics has slower acceleration, so you move your finger faster to get the same pointer movement. That papers over the bug (if it's the same as seen on the *50 series). See https://who-t.blogspot.com.au/2016/09/libinput-and-lenovo-t450-and-t460.html

Please try the scratch build in bug 1415793, thanks

Comment 10 onefreshdude 2017-02-23 22:16:51 UTC
Wow, that's much better. I can now much more accurately hit the small 'x' on chrome tabs now.

The cursor seems to jitter when moving diagonally. It also still jumps but the jumps are much smaller and seem to only happen at the slowest of dragging speeds.

But these issues are very minimal compared to how imprecise it was before I updated. Thanks!

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 19:13:26 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:12:36 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
