Description Steve Friedman 2004-12-23 01:43:11 UTC
Description of problem:
Newly installed fc3 with all updates as of 2004-12-22. In run-level 3
started an slattach, ifconfig, attempted to use the resultant serial
port, then killed -9 the job. The hardware is a new IBM xSeries 306.
Immediately got the following screen (this info is typed in, not
copy-and-paste):

EFLAGS: 00010202 (2.6.9-1.681_FC3smp)

<0>Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception in interrupt

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel: kernel-2.6.9-1.681_Fc3smp
slattach: net-tools-1.60-37
udev: udev-039019.FC3.6

How reproducible:
Could not reproduce.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start kernel in run-level 3 (I set it both in /boot/grub/ and
/etc/inittab)
2. Login as normal user, su to root.
3. Execute "/sbin/slattach -p slip -s 115200 /dev/tty0 &"
4. Noted via statserial that CTS was not asserted.
4. Switched to another window, logged in, and attempted to send
many packets to port.
5. kill -9 of the above pid

Actual results:
See kernel panic dump

Expected results:
System to kill job and continue processing.

Additional info:
If I did a startx, started a terminal (in fvwm 2.5.10, if it matters),
then did the slattach in the foreground and hit CTRL-C, then I lost
all keyboard functionality until I exited X every time. However, I
could not reproduce the kernel panic.

Comment 1 Dave Jones 2005-07-15 17:57:43 UTC
An update has been released for Fedora Core 3 (kernel-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3) which
may contain a fix for your problem. Please update to this new kernel, and
report whether or not it fixes your problem.

If you have updated to Fedora Core 4 since this bug was opened, and the problem
still occurs with the latest updates for that release, please change the version
field of this bug to 'fc4'.

Thank you.

Comment 2 Dave Jones 2005-10-03 00:27:03 UTC
This bug has been automatically closed as part of a mass update.
It had been in NEEDINFO state since July 2005.
If this bug still exists in current errata kernels, please reopen this bug.

There are a large number of inactive bugs in the database, and this is the only
way to purge them.

Thank you.
