disabling dma also didn't help:

lcnpc18:nest # hdparm -d0 /dev/hdc

/dev/hdc:
 setting using_dma to 0 (off)
 using_dma    =  0 (off)
lcnpc18:nest # mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: block device /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: /dev/hdc: can't read superblock
lcnpc18:nest #

this is the kernel... not udev
you may try a newer kernel

Comment 3 yuval aviel 2005-01-04 08:29:06 UTC
Upgrading to 2.6.10 didn't help. Same error messages.

Comment 5 Dave Jones 2005-07-15 19:15:37 UTC
An update has been released for Fedora Core 3 (kernel-2.6.12-1.1372_FC3) which
may contain a fix for your problem. Please update to this new kernel, and
report whether or not it fixes your problem.

If you have updated to Fedora Core 4 since this bug was opened, and the problem
still occurs with the latest updates for that release, please change the version
field of this bug to 'fc4'.

Thank you.

Comment 6 yuval aviel 2005-07-18 16:43:30 UTC
The bug does not exist in FC4 (latest kernel-2.6.12).
Thanks.
