Description Ilanit Stein 2017-04-04 08:26:37 UTC
Description of problem:

In Quad icon VMs display, some of the VM power options offered, for RHV provider,
are not supported (attachment VM_Quad_icon_display_power_options.png).

When running the irrelevant/unsupported options, those tasks finish successfully.

On VM details page the VM power control options offered are supported (attachment VM_details_power_options.png). For a down VM, only power ON option is offered.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
CFME-5.7.2, CFME-5.8.0.8 & RHV-4.0.7

Expected results:
For RHV provider VMs, only supported & relevant power options should be displayed

Comment 4 Martin Betak 2017-06-26 10:39:35 UTC
When reproducing the same steps against the VMware provider this seems to be a consistent behavior across the infra providers. Whereas on the VM detail screen we have all information loaded and can disable unsupported actions, when checking/unchecking multiple VMs doing the same would require a lot of round trips to the server and thus be too expensive to implement. I believe this would be better solved/decided at the core-level than at the of individual provider.

Hi James,
As per Martin's comment, this appears to be a general provider issue. Can you take a look and assign to the UI team if necessary.

thanks
Bronagh

Dan, I don't know if this should even be handled. But, it sounds like there's some discrepancy between the individual VM summary pages and the VM list pages, as far as what power ops are shown based on supported power operations.

I'm guessing, as Martin pointed out in comment #4, that this is going to be pretty resource intensive to solve in any acceptable way.

Thoughts?

Opened Bug 1476592 - "RHV provider VM Quad icon page: VM power 'reset' option do not fail as expected."

For the only unsupported RHV VM power option.
