Verified in satellite-6.3.0-17.0.beta.el7sat.noarch, gzip now compresses the required files as expected, e.g. the output of incremental backup:

Since the problem described in this bug report should be resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a resolution of ERRATA.
