Description Jack Neely 2005-01-11 18:45:20 UTC
Description of problem:
gnome-session is having issues parsing .desktop files. Our home
directories are shared across all systems. Logging into Gnome on
RHEL4 beta, back to RHEL3 then into RHEL4 produces apperently corrupt
.desktop files. The user ends up looking at a blue screen and the
Gnome splash window never appears and the session never terminates.

Removing the gnome directories solves the problem.

I, honestly, don't really care if moving back and forth between RHEL
versions screws up Gnome, but the login needs to work. :-)

My .xsession-errors file looks like this:

 Setting up environment ...
Loading user customized keyboard configs ...
Starting Zephyr client - zwgc
Session initialization completed.
Running /usr/bin/gnome-session
SESSION_MANAGER=local/rk-test5.pams.ncsu.edu:/tmp/.ICE-unix/12214
