Description Olivier Baudron 2005-02-11 10:06:02 UTC
My PC has a Dell OEM SBLive! and is improperly associated by the
system with driver emu10k1. This driver is unable to handle the sound
card. The file /proc/asound/cards shows "no sound card". No device is
created, and of course I cannot play any sound.

The correct driver for this card (see hwconf below) is not snd-emu10k1
but snd-emu10k1x, which can be downloaded from the alsa web page:
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?module=emu10k1x
Last I checked, this driver is not in the RH kernel nor in 2.6.10 from
kernel.org. However this driver works for me.

/etc/sysconfig/hwconf:
-
class: AUDIO
bus: PCI
detached: 0
driver: snd-emu10k1
desc: "Creative Labs [SB Live! Value] EMU10k1X"
vendorId: 1102
deviceId: 0006
subVendorId: 1102
subDeviceId: 1003
pciType: 1
pcidom: 0
pcibus: 2
pcidev: 7
pcifn: 0
