After answering necessary deployment questions from step 3 there is no way to edit any of the answers. This is spelled out in step 4 when it asks you to confirm installation settings. There should be a mechanism to edit the configuration or have the documentation note state "that if any values are incorrect cancel setup" There could also be a warning in the beginning of step #3 that "Any inaccurate information cannot be changed after the fact and may cause the user to redeploy the OS."

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Navigate to the Hosted Engine deployment wizard
2. Agree to the installation
3. Answer deployment questions when prompted
4. Confirm installation settings

Actual results:
There is currently no way to edit configuration at this point in the process; if your configuration details are incorrect, you need to start this process again to correct them, or continue the process and correct them during deployment.

Expected results:
From the confirm installation page, you should be able to edit the configuration instead of just view it. Or there should be a warning before you start to enter the configuration that you will not be able to edit any of this information after the fact.

This is an issue with the product that should be corrected, but we can improve customer experience by improving the docs as suggested above:

"...have the documentation note state "that if any values are incorrect cancel setup" There could also be a warning in the beginning of step #3 that "Any inaccurate information cannot be changed after the fact and may cause the user to redeploy the OS."

There is currently a note in step 4 that tells users this, but I agree that we should warn them earlier as well.

I think this is addressed to an extent with the next release, i.e RHV 4.2 hosted engine deployment. Adding Simone to comment.

Comment 4 Dave 2018-01-04 15:57:19 UTC
Would the RHV 4.2 release coincide with RHHI 2.0 release? Or put differently what RHHI release can this be expected?

As I understand reading the above comments the change would be in documentation not the product. We believe that the change should be in both and that the user should be given the ability to change the configuration not just view it. I apologize if I misunderstood any comments.

Comment 5 Laura Bailey 2018-01-08 00:34:36 UTC
As far as I know, RHHI 2.0 should be based on RHV 4.2 or later, so should include this fix.

If this feature doesn't make it into RHV in the RHHI 2.0 timeframe, I'll ensure users are warned earlier.

If the ability to edit does make it into RHHI 2.0, I'll update the doc accordingly.

Sounds good to me. Thanks Laura!

Hi Laura,
I am attaching two screen shots :
1- Prepare VM Failed
2- HE deployment failed.

Also failed deployment log will be available under /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-*.log

Reply to the #Comment20 (Laura Bailey)

While deploying hosted engine in RHHI 2.0 environment(RHV 4.2) the issue is addressed .Now the user can edit any of the answers that has been submitted even when the user wants to redeploy and the troubleshooting section looks good to me .

Tested with the following :
(1) rhvh-4.2.4.2-0.20180613
(2) gdeploy-2.0.2-27.el7rhgs.noarch
(3) ansible-2.5.5-1.el7ae.noarch

Hence moving the bug to verified.
