Description Steve Hall 2005-03-26 13:59:40 UTC
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM:

Upgrade to 1.0.2 broke Firefox. Window is now white with no
contents and all menus, input boxes, buttons inoperable.

VERSION-RELEASE NUMBER OF SELECTED COMPONENT (IF APPLICABLE):

1.0.2

HOW REPRODUCIBLE:

Always.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Start Firefox.

ACTUAL RESULTS:

Page display is blank (white). Menus, input boxes, buttons
are inoperable. Mouse-over highlighting is broken, although
tooltips still work. Drop-down menu for toolbar search box
strangely appears in upper left-most corner of window (over
the File menu). Window responds normally, CPU usage is
normal.

EXPECTED RESULTS:

Web pages are displayed, buttons and menus function.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

See attached screenshot.

* Same behavior by multiple users/logins

* Removal of ~/.mozilla doesn't solve problem

* "yum remove firefox" and reinstall doesn't fix

* Removal and installation of previously working 1.0.1 from
yum repository RPM now shows same behavior.

* Browser behaved normally a few times after first
  breakage, now is always broken.

* Can't believe this would affect it, but installed nvidia
drivers with nvidia's 1.0-7167 installer the day before.
Dropping back to default X driver doesn't fix it.

* Epiphany, Mozilla (even Konqueror) works fine.

Did you try totally closing firefox and starting it again? Nobody else reported
any trouble like this with the new firefox.

Comment 3 Steve Hall 2005-03-26 22:59:22 UTC
Yes I closed and re-opened. :) Per the report I totally
uninstalled and re-installed. Logged out, in. Logged out,
tried other profile. Rebooted. Even tried Windows partition
Firefox (irrelevant, but just checking the DSL modem wasn't
delivering white pages :).

Ok, FIXED. I yum removed mozilla and dependancy epiphany.
This did NOT ask to remove firefox, however, which I would
have expected. So I specifically yum removed it, then again
moved ~/.mozilla.

Rebooted, yum installed firefox, and it works, two profiles.

I have no idea what just happened, but it certainly appears
a local anomaly associated with the nvidia installer or the
odd mozilla dependancy breakage, although I am a strict
official repository kind of guy.
