Description Chris Murphy 2018-01-19 20:26:11 UTC
This kernel fails to boot on two UEFI systems.

HP Spectre with secure boot enabled
model name	: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz

On this system, I see EFI stub: UEFI secure boot enabled, the screen goes black and then I'm back at the GRUB menu.

MacbookPro 9,2 which lacks secure boot
model name	: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz

On this system, after GRUB the screen goes black and there's only an underscore character on the screen, and it hangs here indefinitely.

Both systems boot fine with kernel-4.15.0-0.rc8.git1.1.fc28.x86_64

Comment 1 Chris Murphy 2018-01-19 20:29:49 UTC
On the HP Spectre, if I disable secure boot, I no longer get the EFI stub message, just a black screen followed by GRUB menu again.

Comment 3 Björn Esser (besser82) 2018-01-20 10:27:12 UTC
`kernel-4.15.0-0.rc8.git3.1.fc28` is affected by this as well; same result as described in the initial report, when I try to boot it on a Lenovo ThinkPad X220 (i7-2620M) in UEFI mode.

Secureboot isn't supported by this hardware, so I cannot test that.

Comment 4 Lars Seipel 2018-01-20 18:37:02 UTC
Considering that this is reproducible in QEMU using TianoCore/OVMF, this likely affects all UEFI systems.
