Description of problem:
schedule API not working properly to facilitate thread-safe use of proton C++ with MRG 3.2

How reproducible:
Customer has reliable reproducer onsite


Actual results:
Crash due to memory issues, or missing acknowledgements

Expected results:
No missing messages or crashes
