Description of problem:

no activity after running a period of time on rhel6.9, but no problem on rhel6.8(Linux R10 2.6.32-642.el6.x86_64)

I am sorry, but

 a) iftop-1.0-0.pre3.el6.rf.x86_64 does not belong to EPEL but RPM Forge
 b) kernel-2.6.32-696.el6.x86_64 is vulnerable to security flaws

Please try iftop from EPEL (iftop-1.0-0.14.pre4.el6) with latest kernel of
RHEL/CentOS 6.9 and re-open this bug report if the issue still exists.
