Description of problem:
I have an external DVD-RW, connected over USB2.0.

$ cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:

This is all. No /etc/fstab entry. No /dev/sda or similar. No icon in GNOME. Nothing.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot FC4test2

Actual Results:  No sign of DVD unit (except /proc/scsi/...)

Expected Results:  DVD unit normally usable.

latest udev version is 057.. please retry with updates hotplug and udev

I have the same problem on FC3 (yes, FC3) with udev-057-4.i386.rpm and
hal-0.5.1-1.i386.rpm installed.

# dmesg
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using address 17
scsi15 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices

is the sd_mod module and sr_mod module loaded?

Now it works.

I'm not sure what fixed it. I have :
