Description Gonzalo Marcote 2018-05-11 11:39:50 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request
In one HA App environment provide full solution integrated in OCP and not suggest the use of external LB

3. What is the nature and description of the request?
In HA configurations with HA Applications, we suggest to use an external balancer that forwards requests to the openshift routers, so app see the external balancer as source not the real clients.
As one LB is distributed for HA multi masters the same would be achieved for HA Applications keeping a simpler architecture, fully in control in the openshift's automation.

4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Because as explained, HA Applications requiere one external balancer not providing OCP a full solution and no allowing to automate it with the other OCP components.
To remove the requirements about external LBs (for app traffic) in order to simplify the architecture and allow full control of the infrastructure by openshift.

5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)
Adding a new LB component managed by OCP or an additional internal layer that can be distributed among the existent routers so it is only a logical one, so the routers (more than one) internal to openshift implement a distributed router which manages its VIP and balances between its nodes.

6. For each functional requirement listed in question 5, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.
When he is able to deploy Load Balancing For HA Applications integrated in OCP and not have to use external solutions.

10. List any affected packages or components.
OCP in all his versions.

With the introduction of OpenShift 4, Red Hat has delivered or roadmapped a substantial number of features based on feedback by our customers. Many of the enhancements encompass specific RFEs which have been requested, or deliver a comparable solution to a customer problem, rendering an RFE redundant.

This bz (RFE) has been identified as a feature request not yet planned or scheduled for an OpenShift release and is being closed.

If this feature is still an active request that needs to be tracked, Red Hat Support can assist in filing a request in the new JIRA RFE system, as well as provide you with updates as the RFE progress within our planning processes. Please open a new support case: https://access.redhat.com/support/cases/#/case/new

As the new Jira RFE system is not yet public, Red Hat Support can help answer your questions about your RFEs via the same support case system.
