Description Andrew Dahms 2018-07-02 23:49:57 UTC
Red Hat Satellite 6.4 adds the ability to assign Ansible roles to hosts. A procedure outlining how to do so along with why this is important to users must be added to the documentation.

Assigning to Melanie for review.

Melanie - this addresses the basic procedures covered in the following section of the upstream documentation -

https://www.theforeman.org/plugins/foreman_ansible/2.x/index.html#4.2Selectingrolesforahost

During the last Satellite docs meeting, we discussed that the content on Ansible integration should fall into two locations -

* Administering Red Hat Satellite - setting up Ansible integration
* Managing Hosts - doing things with Ansible integration

Right now, we have a chapter on Ansible integration in Managing Hosts, which covers how to set up callbacks. Clifton also has a bug on importing roles, which is the first step in the new integration, and I will work with him on that.

What I propose we do here is create a new chapter in Administering Red Hat Satellite to cover the configuration side, and put the content for this bug and BZ#1597448 in there for now. We can move the other configuration-related content there as soon as Clifton is done with his work so that we have a chapter that covers everything from callbacks up to assigning roles.

I recognize it will be a bit messy for now, but this approach should help us make a start on the content we can make a start on without running into any merge conflicts, and I will raise bugs to both move the content over and review the section as a whole when it is in place.

Hi Andrew,

Can you link to the bug that is assigned to Clifton that you are referring to please? Thank you.

As I work on this, I wonder does this content best fit in the Managing Hosts guide as these roles must be assigned directly to the hosts.

It will become clear as more of these procedures are complete.
