Description of problem:

Couldn't get scanimage to work. dmesg shows

Lockdown: scanimage: ioperm is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7" kernel error

I opened ticket #1599197 as I couldn't get scanimage to work like it did under CentOS6 - and I also couldn't load third-party kernel modules like wireguard.

Anyway, long story short #1599197 taught me how to disable secureboot mode and a reboot later all the "Lockdown" errors disappeared. They told me to report this to you guys, but frankly after fixing the lockdown issue, scanimage still didn't work with my Brother MFC7340 USB printer, but I found newer Brother packages on their website - which were still too old as they required libnsl.so.1 - whereas F28 has libnsl.so.2. So I symlinked the two for giggles and everything started working again

So I'm not sure if the ioperm issue was actually important and I don't want to reverse out the changes to test for you  - so treat this as a "FYI" and do with it what you may :-)

Hi Jason,

thank you for filing this bug! Actually, we talked about it in https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1564763 - Brother should port its driver to libnsl2 or require older libnsl (it wasn't needed before, because libnsl was part of glibc) - both, since their drivers aren't packaged in Fedora, needs to be done by Brother.
